Maureen O’Connor’s painting methods employ an instinctive technical engagement with disorder, to concede to perceptual strangeness that destabilises the normal. She blends the abstract and the actual, in oblique visual arrangements, towards a summation of intense feeling, where the outside world falls away. When the image comes close to not being, or when it’s about to take form, or about to disappear, she recognises potential to make a visual impression of personal sensation.
