Printmaking Workshops June & July 2023

Printmaking with Joel Feldman
Saturday, 17th June 2023 (10.00 – 17:00)

This class will be a one-day intensive workshop introducing image making utilizing dip pen, printmaking techniques and collage. The class will be given demonstrations on relief and intaglio printmaking techniques along with demonstrations using dip pens and the incorporating of collage materials. There will be a brief discussion at the end of the period.

Joel Feldman grew up in Washington DC. Spent his high school years avoiding school and hanging out in D.C’s wonderful museums. Got it together academically in Jr. College and received his BFA from The Carnegie Institute of Technology and his MFA from Indiana University. Taught for three years at the University of Georgia in Athens Georgia, moved to England, and lived there for two years. Returned to the States to teach at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio and from there moved to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois where he became head of Printmaking. Retired from SIUC in 2004 and moved to Lexington, Kentucky and became an Adjunct Professor with the School of Art and Visual Studies. He stopped teaching when the Covid epidemic struck. His printmaking specialty is woodcut, and he is currently working using pen and ink. Feldman has shown extensively in the United States and England as well as exhibiting and teaching with the Custom House Studios in Westport, Ireland.

This class will be a three day intensive workshop introducing image making utilizing dip pen, printmaking techniques and collage.  The class will be given demonstrations on relief and intaglio printmaking techniques along with demonstrations using dip pens and the incorporating of collage materials. There will be a brief discussion at the end of the period. Course will focus on storytelling using drawing and printmaking and using mistakes and incorporating them.
